A cataract is a clouding of the natural lens of the eye. There is no proven way to prevent cataracts from developing there are preventative measures that can be taken such as ensuring that your diet contains plenty of beta carotene and both vitamins C and E. Another good idea is to always protect your eyes from UVA and UVB rays, a protection found in eyeglasses as well as contact lenses.
The only treatment for cataracts is outpatient surgery where the cataract is removed and is replaced with a plastic implant. Early detection through yearly eye exams can assist the patient and the physician in cataract detection.
