LENS OPTIONS

  1. Monofocal: A standard replacement lens provides very good "monofocal” focusing power for distance vision only, much like a single-vision pair of eyeglasses. You will still be dependent on reading glasses or bifocals for close-up vision. There are other options that may enable you to see clearly at near as well but it may require you to have one eye corrected for distance and one eye for near. This lens is covered by insurance companies.
  2. TORIC: This lens is designed to correct astigmatism, as with the monofocal lens it only corrects for one zone of vision as well, distance or near. This lens implant will decrease your dependence on glasses for distance, but you will still need to have reading glasses. This lens is partially covered by insurance.
  3. ReSTOR: corrects for distance, intermediate, and near. The best option to minimize your dependency on glasses. This lens implant has multiple rings that help focus at distance, intermediate, and near. In a clinical trial, after having the AcrySof® IQ ReSTOR® IOL implanted in both eyes, at 6 months post-op, 78 percent of patients reported not needing glasses. In a patient satisfaction survey, the majority of patients implanted with the +3.0 D IOL— nearly 94%—indicated that they would have the lenses implanted again. This lens is partially covered by insurance. Not everyone is a candidate. A small percentage of patients may notice severe visual disturbances (difficulty with night driving, glare, and halos).
